Leah Calvert is a fiddler/vocalist born and bred in the ever sprawling city of Atlanta. At the age of five, Leah took up the fiddle. Like many bluegrassers, Leah's introduction to the music came through her father. Under his tutelage, Leah learned the 'standards' much to the chagrin of her classical violin teacher. Three years after taking up the fiddle, she was inducted into local bluegrass band, Courthouse Creek.

Growing up, Leah fiddled with Bluegrass and Celtic, but it wasn't until she went to college in the mini music Mecca of Athens, Georgia that Leah experienced the truly eclectic style of Calliope Fair. The band gave the mind room to wonder and expanded Leah's musical boundries. While with Calliope, Leah was fortunate enough to open for notable acts like Drivin' n' Cryin' and Blueground Undergrass. After graduating from The University of Georgia, she turned her focus to incorporating more singing and actual fiddlin' in her performance. Leah soon found herself back in Atlanta playing bluegrass.

Recently, Leah completed a project for the 20th anniversary celebration of Trees Atlanta. The project entailed creating a soundtrack for a short documentary on the organization. In the past, she's also assisted in soundtracks for National Public Radio including a piece on the Altamaha River produced by David Bryant.

Recently, Leah recorded an album with friends from the Atlanta area. Rough Draft is a first of many solo albums. It includes Geoff Hohwald on the banjo and Mitch Simpson, who is currently working on a project with Bryan Sutton and Aubrie Hainey, on the mandolin.

Over the past year, Leah's enjoyed honing her 'sound' both vocally and instrumentally. Having settled on bluegrass or some variation of bluegrass, Leah is excited about the continuing opportunities the music has to offer. Leah's prodigious talent as both a singer and a fiddler enable her to from the centerpiece of her own band and meld a variety of pickers into a consistently excellent bluegrass sound. Currently, Leah is working to create an ensemble of musicians who share her same interest in music.
